What was the situation?

MD had arrived into the country around 4 months ago and wanted to improve his communication skills and integrate into the local community. He had been a volunteer in his own country (Turkey) and had helped to plant over 500 trees.

What was the intervention?

MD said he has always worked and earned his own income and as he isn’t working at the moment he wanted to do the next best thing and help out on a volunteering opportunity. He wanted to learn more about local culture and work on my communication, whilst dealing with the customers.

During his time here he has had some basic barista training, showed how to rotate stock, help serve lunches in the welcome hub and assist people with their shopping from the food club.

What was the outcome?

He has said that this experience has be really helpful to him. He has improved his  communication skills and is enjoying being part of a local community project. He gets satisfaction from volunteering and feels like he is giving something back to people.
