Since its launch in 2022 our Welcome Hub at The Angel Centre has gone from strength to strength. We now serve a free lunchtime meal to at least 30 people every week day. This is for any Salford resident who is vulnerable or on a low income.

We also run a food club where Salford people can come and get at least for 2 large bags of shopping every week for £4. This is a combination of food that we get from Fareshare and food which we buy in ourselves. This means people get a mixture of meat, cheese, fresh veg plus essentials like tea and sugar.

We also utilize fresh vegetables that we grow and harvest our Garden Needs site. Here, people recovering from mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, volunteer to help grow veg for our food club.

We began this scheme as part of a warm hub in the winter and have continued due to the cost of living crisis which is still effecting people.

We have added on more services into the hub including games, colouring, art sessions and crochet club.

The hub has not only ensured that people have access to food but it has helped to reduce social isolation. Our community is now using the space as part of their routine and it is improving their wellbeing.

We could not run the hub without the help of our wonderful volunteers. We have a large team of volunteers who help run the food club and the kitchen while gaining training in food hygiene and customer service.
